Time spent outdoors can be extremely beneficial for our physical, mental, and emotional health. From connecting with nature to soaking up some Vitamin D, getting outside can have a huge impact on how we feel and how we think. We've had some warm days so far in February, and it will only continue to get warmer over the next few months. Let’s explore why spending time outdoors has such tremendous health benefits:
Boost Your Mood
Getting outside can lift your mood in a matter of minutes. Studies have shown that just 10 minutes spent in nature significantly reduces stress levels and increases feelings of happiness. Going outdoors is especially beneficial if you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious; it can give you the mental clarity to tackle whatever challenges you may be facing.
Connect with Nature
Spending more time outdoors allows us to reconnect to the natural world around us. This connection can be incredibly calming, grounding us in the present moment and helping us focus on what matters most. Connecting with nature also reduces our exposure to artificial light sources like computer screens, which can interfere with our circadian rhythms and disrupt our ability to get quality sleep at night.
Improve Physical Health
Being outdoors encourages us to move more often, which is essential for overall physical health. Whether it’s a leisurely walk through your neighborhood or an intense hike in the mountains, any type of outdoor activity helps increase your heart rate, build muscle strength, improve balance and flexibility—all while taking in some fresh air! Spending time outside also helps boost your immune system by exposing you to different bacteria and viruses that are beneficial for good health.
By now it should be clear that being outdoors is not only enjoyable but also incredibly beneficial for our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. In fact, in April, we are launching our Beyond Sixty Adventure Community, which promotes fitness outside of the gym space. Come join us to step outside and connect with nature! You may find yourself feeling happier, healthier—and more connected than ever before!
